Collection: Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie was one of the most widely read and influential writers of the twentieth century. A novelist whose work defined the modern detective story, her books have remained in continuous print for decades and continue to shape the genre today. ...

Born in 1890, Christie drew on a keen understanding of human behaviour, a sharp ear for dialogue, and an instinctive sense of narrative structure to create mysteries that are both ingeniously plotted and deceptively simple on the surface.

She is best known for her long-running series featuring Hercule Poirot, the meticulous Belgian detective, and Miss Marple, the seemingly unassuming village spinster whose quiet insight proves consistently lethal to criminals.

Novels such as The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, The ABC Murders, and And Then There Were None are now regarded as landmarks of crime fiction, admired for their misdirection, narrative economy, and bold manipulation of reader expectations.

Alongside her novels, Christie produced hundreds of short stories and a substantial body of theatrical work, including The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in theatre history.

Christie also wrote outside the crime genre under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott, publishing a small number of novels that explore relationships, loss, and emotional conflict in a markedly different register. These works offer an important counterpoint to her detective fiction and reveal the breadth of her literary interests.

This collection at Sancho’s Rare Books brings together books written by and about Agatha Christie, with a particular emphasis on first editions, early printings, and significant or collectable editions.

It includes early British hardbacks, dust-jacketed copies, notable reprints, and special editions, as well as contextual material that traces the publication history of her work and its enduring popularity with readers and collectors alike.
