The Vision and Creed of Piers Ploughman. Edited from a Contemporary Manuscript, with a Historical Introduction Notes, and a Glossary, by Thomas Wright, M.A.,F.S.A.: London, Gibbings and Company, Limited, 1897. In two volumes.

Thomas Wright's edition, first published in 1832, was based on the only finished manuscript of the poem at the time. This 14th-century poem preceded and influenced Chaucer and represents the earliest mention of the legend of Robin Hood. Publisher's lighter green cloth binding, gilt lettering and decorative motifs to spine and front cover, top edge gilt, other edges rough-cut, fold-out frontispiece on volume one.

Discolouration to spine, as well as many patches of discolouration to covers, a few small marks to spines and rear covers, spines a little cocked, foxing to edges and prelims (only sporadically throughout), and extensive hand-written inscriptions in pen to rear of FFEP on volume one; else very nice.
