The Vampire in Europe, by Montague Summers. London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., Ltd., 1929. First edition, first impression of this important work on vampire lore, by the author of History of Witchcraft and Demonology (1926).

Octavo. Original dark red cloth, gilt title to spine, blind-tooled frame to front cover. With original, unclipped dust wrapper, showing price 15s. net to spine. With one frontispiece and seven illustrations.

Very good. Lightest bumping and rubbing to corners and spine tips, a couple of small marks to slightly-tanned edges; else a clean and uninscribed book. In its scarce dust jacket that is a little darkened to spine and that shows some nibbling to extremities, including a very small area of loss to upper corner of rear cover.

One of the most comprehensive studies of European vampire lore and the author's second book on vampires, considered by Summers himself complementary to his previously published book, The Vampire: His Kith and Kin (1928). Collecting a number of histories of vampirism in European countries, including Greece, Italy, England, Ireland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Romania and Bulgaria.
