The Pirates' Who's Who Giving Particulars of the Lives & Deaths of the Pirates & Buccaneers, by Philip Gosse. London: Dulau and Company, Ltd., 1924. First edition. Publisher's red cloth binding, gilt lettering to spine, blind stamped titling to front cover, top edge gilt, map front endpaper and plain rear endpaper. Wear to extremities and joints, discolouration to spine, bumping to corners, heavy spotting to edges and throughout on pages, penned inscription to half-title dated 1924, binding a little shaken with a few pages coming partially loose and a few cracks with netting exposed; else a good, readable and complete copy. No dust wrapper. A biographical record of some of the most scandalous pirates history has ever known. Scarce.

A Book of Famous Pirates, by A. M. Smyth. London: Oxford University Press, 1940. First edition, first printing. With illustrations by C. Walter Hodges. Publisher's decorated paper binding printed in gray and pink, titling to spine and front cover, illustrated endpapers, fold-out map to rear. Foxing to edges and endpapers, light crushing to spine tips and bumping to corners; else fine. In a good, unclipped dust wrapper that is tanned and chipped to extremities, with a good portion of loss to spine tips. Dust wrapper now placed in a removable, protective sleeve of archival quality. A great book in which Smyth tells the stories of some of the greatest pirates of all times, including Barbarossas, Sir Francis Drake, Sir Henry Morgan, Captain Kidd, Mary Read and The Emden.

Publisher's original cloth binding with gilt lettering to spine. Externally in very good condition, slightly cocked, small crushing to top and bottom of spine. With the exception of a dedication written in pen at the front, the book is immaculate inside. Complete example. In a very good, clipped dust wrapper with bright panels and spine, with some chipping to head and base and tanning around the edges; now in an archival sleeve. The only biography of Barbarossa, a legendary and important historical figure.
