The Pilgrim's Progress and the Life and Death of Mr. Badman

Written by John Bunyan (1628 - 1688). Published by The Nonesuch Press 1928. With eight woodcuts by Karl Michel.

A beautiful, rather special edition, consisting of 1,600 copies in total, out of which this is number 1295. The text has been printed on Arches paper by The Kynoch Press in Caslon monotype and Deutsche Zierschrift. The illustrations have been printed from the original woodblocks and colour stencilled by The Curwen Press: all under the case of Francis Meynell. Gilded top edge with rough-cut edges. Sized 13.5 x 20.3cm. Pp. 22, viii, 450.

Condition

Publisher's original cloth binding with decorative marbling throughout and label with gilt lettering to spine. Slight edgewear and bumping to one corner and spine tips, and perhaps the very lightest of fading to spine. Edges clean and unmarked. Joints and hinges secure with pages very tightly bound. Tanned patches due to acidic transfer to FFEP and RFEP. Clean and unmarked throughout.

A beautiful example in even better than very good condition overall, soon approaching its one hundred year anniversary.
