The Natural History of Selborne, Gilbert White. London: The Folio Society, 2009. First printing thus. Introduction by Keith Thomas. 333 × 252 × 44 mm. Pp. [i–vi] vii–xvi, [1–10] 11–379 [380–384]. Type: Baskerville. Printed by Memminger MedienCentrum. Bound by Real Lachenmaier in three-quarter brown cloth with green paper board printed in black and blocked in gold with design by Neil Gower; dark brown endleaves. Dark brown slip case with title and author in gold. Gower also supplied map of Selborne on pages [xii–xiii]. Illustrated with watercolours by Samuel Hieronymous Grimm painted in 1776 and engravings by Peter Mazell published in the same year. White’s much observed tortoise, Timothy, weighed less than this monumental edition. Very good, read book, with only a light bump to upper front corner and a little shallow crushing to spine tip. Housed in a good-only slipcase that is still structurally sound, but displays ample amounts of wear to panels and wear to corners, including a split.
