The House at Pooh Corner, by A. A. Milne. First edition, first impression, of the final Pooh book. London: Methuen & Co. Ltd, 1928. First Deluxe Edition. Octavo, xii (last blank), 178 numbered pages with numerous illustrations plus endpaper illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard. Gilt-decorated dark blue leather, all edges gilt. One of 4000 copies of the deluxe issue in full leather, and one of only 1200 bound in blue; there were also 1200 in green and 1600 in red. Together with two loosely-inserted newspaper cutouts.
Leather rubbed and worn to extremities, heavily discoloured to spine with further discolouration around rear extremities, gilt decoration and edges a tad worn and scratched, spine ends chipped and frayed. Pages tanned with a few grubby thumb marks and some foxing, none affecting text and illustrations. Some stains and offsetting to both front and rear endpapers. Inscription penned to FFEP, a few (now straightened) ear marks and a small portion of loss to the very last page before the illustrated rear endpaper, not affecting the illustration, nor the text.
A good minus copy, collated as complete of the first Milne book that introduces both Tigger and the game of Poohsticks. Milne had bought his son a stuffed tiger, "Tigger", and told Shepard that he was longing to see the illustrations for this new character, who would become one of the author's most popular creations.
