BARKLEM, Jill. Spring Story, Summer Story, Autumn Story, Winter Story [The Four Brambly Hedge Seasons].

London: Collins, 1980. First editions, 5th, 5th, 4th, and 5th impression respectively. Miniature, 17.6×14.6 cm. Publisher's pictorial covers, differently coloured endpapers; with unclipped (£2.50) dust wrappers.

A lovely set of four books, very good copies, bindings with light lean but firm, with mildest bumping to spine tips and foxing to the closed text blocks. Internally pages are clean and free from previous owner's inscriptions. In very good dust jackets that show the odd crease to an extremity.

The first four books of Barklem's beloved series following the lives of a community of mice through the changing seasons. Spring sees Wilfred Toadflax enjoying a picnic and a surprise for his birthday at Bluebell Bank. In Summer, the mice celebrate a special wedding, and everyone takes part in the preparations. Come Autumn, Primrose Woodmouse wanders off and finds herself in uncharted territory. Will anyone ever find her as the storm rages? Finally, in Winter, the biggest snowstorm in years leaves just enough snow for a party in a palace made entirely out of ice.

A truly delightful little set; now all dust jackets placed in archival wrappers.
