The Bookman Christmas Numbers Lot, Stevenson, Shaw
The Bookman Christmas Numbers Lot, Stevenson, Shaw
London: Hodder and Stoughton, [1913 - 1931]
Illustrated by NIELSEN, Kay; GRAY, Thomas; BROOK, C. E., et al.
A job lot of the following (uncollated) publications of The Bookman Christmas Numbers and some specials:
1. Robert Louis Stevenson: The Man & His Work - Extra Number of The Bookman 1913
2. The Bookman Christmas Number 1924 (with many coloured plates, including several prints of paintings in oil of famous writers like Shaw and Joseph Conrad by Walter Tittle, but also coloured plates from Kay Nielsen's illustration from Fairy Tales by Hans Andersen, Lewis Baumer, Kitty Shannon and Harold Copping)
3. The Bookman Special Christmas Number 1926
4. The Bookman Christmas Number 1931 (with lovely, coloured plates from Thomas Gray, Esther Borough Johnson, Isa Rentoul Outhwaite, C. E. Brock, and others). Includes a separate Christmas Bookman 1931 Art Portfolio for "The Old Wives' Tale" by Arnold Bennett, pictured by John Morton Sale, this in turn including six coloured plates contained in an illustrated folder.
Condition
The above numbers have not been individually collated; as a result, please make no assumption that these are complete. The volumes appear whole with likely no pages missing, but there are a few sporadic cut-outs to a handful of pages and a few plates that have been removed. The volumes range from fair to good condition, with the 1926 number in the poorest condition with the spine missing and the boards detached. The others do have tears and repairs done to them, with some breaks within, but are still relatively presentable.
