The BFG by Roald Dahl. London: Jonathan Cape, [1982]. First UK edition, first impression, copiously illustrated by Quentin Blake. Pp. 224. Publisher's original gray binding, gilt lettering to spine, plain endpapers. In original unclipped dust wrapper showing price £6.50 to front flap. Spine tips are slightly crushed, there is a little bumping to the two lower corners, and edges are tanned with the odd foxing spots. Pages throughout are tanned with prelims and a handful of pages showing some patches of foxing (to extremities). Else a clean and uninscribed example. In a good dust wrapper that is a little creased and grubby to extremities, with some further small creasing, peeling and nibbling to edges, lightest sunning to spine, and some faded yellow stains/foxing to flaps; now placed in a removable, protective sleeve of archival quality. A really lovely example overall.

An expansion of a short story from Dahl's 1975 novel Danny, the Champion of the World, The BFG tells the story of the Big Friendly Giant, who unexpectedly spirits a little girl named Sophie out of bed, and into the land of the child-eating giants. With Sophie in his top pocket, the BFG sets off to rid the world of the big, gruesome giants who guzzle up 'human beans' - the Bloodbottler, the Fleshlumpeater and all their rotsome friends. Full of outrageous humour and plenty of jokes, this is one of Roald Dahl's many much-loved tales that continue to be cherished by readers of all ages.
