Bound by Hunter and Foulis in full cloth (a different colour for each volume) with a design in black, gold and one or two other colours by Nick Hardcastle. Dark green five-volume slip case titled (as above) in gold. The illustrations are delightfully redolent of the dormitory, where they should be viewed under the covers, by torchlight. The five volumes are as follows:

[1] John Buchan, the Thirty-Nine Steps and the Power-House, introduced by Andrew Lownie, illustrated by Nick Hardcastle. Pp. [i–viii] ix–xxix [xxx], [1–4] 5–171 [172–176] 177–314 [315–318]: colour frontispiece, [10] leaves of ‘plates’ (facing pp. 31, 49, 56, 58, 101, 152, 241, 272, 286 and 291). Bound in grey cloth, additional binding colours green and red; grey flecked endleaves.

[2] John Buchan, Greenmantle, illustrated by Nick Hardcastle. Pp. [i–xii], 1–298: colour frontispiece, [6] leaves of ‘plates’ (facing pp. 76, 85, 89, 182, 189 and 230). Bound in blue cloth, additional binding colours pale blue and blue; mottled blue-grey endleaves.

[3] John Buchan, Mr Standfast, illustrated by Nick Hardcastle. Pp. [i–x], [1–2] 3–385 [386]: colour frontispiece, [6] leaves of ‘plates’ (facing pp. 73, 152, 209, 224, 276 and 371). Bound in dark grey cloth, additional binding colours pale grey and blue; brown flecked endleaves.

[4] John Buchan, the three hostages, illustrated by Nick Hardcastle. Pp. [i–x], 1–338: colour frontispiece, [6] leaves of ‘plates’ (facing pp. 73, 90, 174, 207, 296 and 336). Bound in brown cloth, additional binding colour cream; brown flecked endleaves.

[5] John Buchan, the island of sheep, illustrated by Nick Hardcastle. Pp. [i–x], [1–2] 3–269 [270–274]: colour frontispiece, [6] leaves of ‘plates’ (facing pp. 143, 145, 203, 221, 248 and 260). Bound in green cloth, additional binding colour green; pale green flecked endleaves.

The books are in near-fine condition. Clean text blocks and boards, pages tightly bound, immaculate inside. No real signs of wear. Likely unread. The slipcase is in very good condition, however with some shelf-wear - please see photos. Structurally integral with no splits.
