Sir Gawain & The Green Knight, edited by J. R. R. Tolkien and E. V. Gordon. Oxford at the Clarendon Press, 1925, this being the 1955 reprint (with corrections).
Post-war reprint of this first edition co-edited by J. R. R. Tolkien and E. V., not often found in a complete dust wrapper. Publisher's green cloth with gilt lettering to spine, plain endpapers; with price-clipped dust wrapper. Pp. 211. Externally smart overall with a dent to lower portion of the front board, light wear to extremities and mild crushing to spine tips. There is light offsetting to prelims, a small penned inscription to FFEP, a few small ear marks throughout and a spine break with netting exposed between frontispiece and title page, but with pages still attached; else a very good copy. In a good, price-clipped dust wrapper with that is tanned to spine and extremities, a little chipped to extremities, with slight loss to spine tips and a small sticker to front flap; now placed in an archival dust wrapper.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is an edition of the Middle English long poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, co-edited by J.R.R. Tolkien and E.V. Gordon. It was published in 1925 by the Clarendon Press, Oxford. Tolkien edited the main text and compiled the glossary, while Gordon provided the greater part of the notes, it also includes an introduction and a linguistic appendix. In 1967, a second edition was published, edited by Norman Davis, where the introduction, notes, and appendix are largely rewritten.
