Agatha Christie's Railway Mysteries. London: The Folio Society, [1990]. First printing thus. Designed and ornamented by David Eccles. 221 × 143 × 25 mm. 2 vols (see below). Type: Bembo with Gill Sans for display. Typeset by Fakenham Photosetting, printed and bound by the Bath Press. Pink-brown two-volume slip case with a railway signal design in brown and white by Eccles titled ‘Agatha Christie’. Eccles’s design, particularly for the bindings, is very effective and redolent of the period. The two volumes (which were also issued separately) are as follows:

[1] Agatha Christie, The Mystery of the Blue Train. Introduction by Tim Heald. Pp. [i–iv] v–xiv, 1–255 [256–258]. Full blue cloth with a 1930s train design in dark blue and white by Eccles; dark blue endleaves.

[2] Agatha Christie, 4.50 from Paddington. Introduction by Robert Barnard. Pp. [i–iv] v–xi [xii], 1–239 [240–244]. Full green cloth with a 1950s train design in dark green and white by Eccles; dark green endleaves.

Condition

Very good condition overall given how notoriously prone to wear this set is. Perhaps the lightest fading to spines, some shallow wear overall to covers and spine, and spines showing light cocking; otherwise clean and uninscribed, with pages bright and tightly bound. In a very good slipcase showing some shelf-wear and one or two small, innocuous marks. A very good set overall.
