Printed by Memminger MedienCentrum. Bound by Real Lachenmaier in full dark red buckram blocked in gold with design by Rooney. Each volume has a different centrepiece portrait. Dark red endleaves. Dark red four-volume slip case titled (as above) in gold. Based on the 1859 edition of the ‘Dryden translation’ revised by Clough. The four volumes are as follows:

I Plutarch Lives, vol. I, The Rise of Classical Greece, the Dryden translation, edited by Arthur Hugh Clough, introduction by Tom Holland, illustrations by David Rooney. Pp. Written in the second century AD, these 48 biographical essays continue to serve as a vital source on prominent Greek and Roman figures, ranging from Alexander the Great to Julius Caesar and Demosthenes to Cicero, capturing events and anecdotes absent from other contemporary records.

This is a set of four near-fine books with pages clean, bright and tightly bound. In like slipcase with a little shelf-wear that is ever-so-lightly bumped to rear; else fine. A beautiful set.
