Illustrated by Debra McFarlane. 299 × 225 × 25 mm. Pp. [i–iv] v–vii [viii–xii], 1–178 [179–182]: [11] leaves of ‘plates’. Type: Caslon with hand-drawn lettering (by McFarlane) on the title-page. Printed by Himmer and bound by Real Lachenmaier, or printed and bound by Neografia (depending on whether this is a third, fourth or fifth printing) in full blue buckram with a design in silver and red by McFarlane; pale blue endleaves with a design in dark blue by McFarlane. Dark blue slip case. This is a new work, created in the tradition of the facsimile children’s books published by Folio, using the text of Barrie’s 1911 version of his story, originally published as Peter and Wendy. In addition to the 12 colour plates which, unlike the ones in the previous printings of this (larger-format) edition, are no longer tipped in. There are also vignette drawings by McFarlane throughout the text.
Recent reissue in a new, smaller format. New and sealed copy. No bumps, nor dings; a fine-looking copy indeed. Photos of the opened copy are stock photos for illustrative purposes.
A beautiful edition of this tale of the boy who refuses to grow up, following Peter, Wendy, and the Lost Boys through adventures in Neverland with pirates, fairies, and a ticking crocodile. First published in novel form in 1911, the story began as a play in 1904 and quickly became a cornerstone of children's literature. Barrie later gifted the rights to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where royalties from the book continue to support the charity.
