How to Cook a Hippopotamus, The Folio Book of Quaint and Curious Advice . . . All Very Proper to Be Read and Kept in Every Family. Selected by Ian Pindar.

London: The Folio Society, 2006. Illustrated by John Holder. 200 × 134 × 12 mm. Pp. [i–v] vi–xi [xii], [1] 2–116. Type: New Century Schoolbook. Printed by Bath Press Colourbooks. Bound by the Bath Press in full dark purple plasticised paper with a colour design by Holder on the front board; dark blue endleaves. Not issued in a slip case.

The text is illustrated throughout with Holder’s colourful sketches, and includes useful advice for anyone interested in self-medication, etiquette, curious cuisine, breast-enlargement, the supernatural, the problems of war (including self-abuse and the best method of bombing a post office), the science of hanging, how to tell an imbecile from an idiot, and the general improvement of the self.

Very light foxing to edges and a slight bumping to corner; else a very good copy with pages clean and tightly bound.
