How the Grinch Stole Christmas, by Dr. Seuss. New York: Random House, 1957. True first edition, first printing of the Grinch's debut, marking both the character's and the word’s introduction to the English language. Complete with all first-issue points: Cat in the Hat on back cover of book, 14 book titles (up to now) listed on the rear flap and a list of 13 books printed at the end of the book, with the unclipped dust jacket with price that reads 250/250 (Younger & Hirsch 33).

Thin quarto, unnumbered pages. Publisher's original illustrated glossy paper boards, pictorial endpapers. Light rubbing to corners with bumping to the lower two corners, a little wear to spine tips, a little cockling to the paper on the rear board, perhaps the lightest of cocking to spine, and slight tanning to pages throughout; else clean and uninscribed. In the original, unclipped, first-issue dust wrapper that shows light sunning to spine and to a narrow portion of the rear panel, a little rubbing and nibbling to extremities, and a few small patches of wear to the bottom of the front panel; clean otherwise with only a handful of foxing spots on the inside; now placed in an archival wrapper.

This is Dr. Seuss's timeless 1957 story about a grumpy Grinch who discovers the true spirit of Christmas after trying to steal it from the Whos of Whoville. One of the most beloved holiday tales, complete with all first-issue points, that has inspired numerous screen adaptations, including the 2000 film in which the Grinch was played by Jim Carrey.
