A very interesting group of six [6] volumes of the Essays and Studies by Members of the English Association Journal, issued between 1932 and 1942, all in their original journal form. As follows:
[1] HADOW, W. H. [Collected by]. Essays and Studies by Members of the English Association. Vol. XVII. Oxford: The Clarendon Press, 1932. Containing C.S. Lewis' essay "What Chaucer Really Did to Il Filostrato”. Publisher's original green cloth, gilt lettering to spine, top edge stained; with unclipped dust wrapper. The first journal appearance of Lewis’ early essay which includes an aspect of what would become his contribution to The Personal Heresy debate, namely his conviction that much of the medieval age was closer to the world of universal ideas than the Renaissance was and, therefore, to be preferred. This is an ex-library copy with slight bumping to spine tips, spine cocked, and library stamp to FFEP; else clean and uninscribed. In an unclipped dust wrapper that is heavily tanned with much of spine missing and chipping to extremities.

The origins of The Personal Heresy - The first three journal appearances (1934, 1935, and 1936) of the essays by C. S. Lewis and Dr. E. M. W. (Eustace Mandeville Wetenhall) Tillyard that would later be expanded with three additional essays and consolidated as The Personal Heresy (first published as a stand-alone volume in 1939 by Oxford University Press). These volumes document the debate at the point of its initial public exchange and their very first iteration in print:
