Domesday Book. London: The Folio Society, 2003. First and only printing according to the Folio 75 Bibliography. Translated and edited by Ann Williams, G.H. Martin, Sarah Tyacke, Elizabeth Hallam
Smith, James Holt and H.R. Loyn. Maps by Reginald Piggott. 270 × 178 × 43–49 mm. 3 vols (see below).
Type: Octavian. Typeset by Tradespools, printed and bound by the Bath Press. Quarter dark brown artificial leather, yellow-brown vegetable parchment (‘Elephanthide’) boards with a design in dark brown (and spine-lettering in gold) by Francis Mosley; white endleaves with a reproduction of a detail from the Domesday book manuscript in dark purple. Three-volume slip case, the top and bottom covered with dark brown artificial leather, the sides and fore-edge with paper repeating the design of the endleaves. The text is set in a small size of type, in double columns, to accommodate the huge quantity of data. The three volumes are as follows:

I. Domesday book, a complete translation, volume I, great Domesday, Kent to Herefordshire, Alecto Historical Editions, Dr Ann Williams & Professor G.H. Martin, editors. Pp. [i–vi] vii–xiv, [1–2] 3–518, [1–4]. There is a map on page [2].

II. Domesday book, a complete translation, volume II, great Domesday, Cambridgeshire to Lincolnshire . .. Pp. [i–vi] vii–xiv [xv–xvi], 519–965 [966]. There is a map on page [xvi].

III. Domesday book, a complete translation, volume III, little Domesday & index of places . . . Pp. [i–vi] vii–xiv, [967–968] 969–1430 [1431–1432]. There is a map on page [968].

A new and sealed set, with light scratches, dustiness to the seal and slight patchy discoloration to one panel of the slipcase; looks to be a near-fine set.

Often called "England’s earliest public record," The Domesday Book is a remarkable 11th-century survey commissioned by William the Conqueror in 1086 to assess land ownership and resources across England. It provides a detailed snapshot of medieval society, listing landholders, property values, and local economies. Essential in understanding Norman rule and feudal England.
