Anything but a Soldier by John Hislop.

London: Michael Joseph, [1965]. First edition, first printing, signed and dedicated by the author on the title page. Publisher's original cloth binding with gilt lettering to spine. Externally in good condition, however with crushing to spine tips, a little discolouration to extremities, bumping to corners, a tiny slit to the upper portion of rear board and tanning to edges. A couple of breaks inside with netting exposed, but no loose pages. Author's dedication "Cecily, with love from the author John Hislop, 1965" to FFEP. In good dust wrapper showing price 35s net to front flap, with significant chipping and a little loss to extremities and spine tips, and a bit grubby overall; now placed in a removable, protective sleeve of archival quality.

Anything But A Soldier details John's experiences in Word War II when he served behind the lines in Phantom, an offshoot of the SAS. John went on to breed Brigadier Gerard, one of the best, if not the best, of the colts that have raced in Europe since World War II.
