A Book of Verse, by William Morris. London: Scolar Press, 1980. Facsimile edition, reproduced by arrangement with the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. A limited edition of 325 copies, out of which 300 are for sale and the first 62 are bound in vellum. This is number 248.

Large 8vo;pp. [viii], 51, [5]. Limited edition. Quarter green buckram, lettered gilt, taupe cloth sides, with oval green leather label blocked in gold with Georgiana Burne-Jones's monogram. [together with] 'Notes to accompany a facsimile of the manuscript written in 1870,' card wrappers, pp. 8. All contained in the original publisher's green cloth solander box with gilt lettering to black label on spine. Each page of text set within decorative floral borders, with a number of delicate and detailed illustrations of maidens in woodland settings.

A near-fine copy with two very small, innocuous marks to cloth cover. Near-fine introductory notes with a small mark to upper-front corner. In a very good box that shows a shelf-wear, fading to spine and some further faded staining to rear panel.

In 1870, Morris created a handwritten, illustrated book of poetry as a birthday gift for Georgiana Burne-Jones, the wife of his friend Edward Burne-Jones. This work was a genuine collaboration, with Morris contributing the poems, calligraphy, and decorative elements, while the illustrations were provided by Burne-Jones, Fairfax, and Wardle. The original manuscript was acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1952, and this is the first time the manuscript has ever been published in any form.
