Bound by Mackay in purple series binding with John Westwood’s design of seven quills on the front board and the spine lettered in gold in sans serif type. Each text was taken from the ‘New Temple Shakespeare’ published by J.M. Dent and edited by M.R. Ridley. White dust-jacket printed in yellow, black and colour. In addition to the plates, which show costume designs by Cruddas, there are five sketches of set designs by Furse in the text. All the designs were made for Olivier’s 1952 production at the Saint James’s Theatre.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA good-only copy, the binding square and firm but worn and discoloured, particularly to the spine and in patches to the covers, with corners bumped and rubbed. The closed text block shows foxing, as well as light splattering to top edge, with further foxing to the prelims and a pen inscription to the FFEP; otherwise the pages remain clean and uninscribed. In the worn dust wrapper, unclipped but tanned, with wear to the extremities, loss to the spine tips and upper-right portion of the front panel, and a few small nicks and tears; the spine also tanned.
