London: John Murray, 1902. Reprinted January 1902 - Thirteenth to Eighteenth Thousand.

Sized 20.3 x 14 cm. Pp. xxxi, 703.

An earlier reprint in lovely condition of "the most influential scientific work of the 19th century" (Horblit) in which Darwin explained his concept of evolutionary adaptation through natural selection, which would become the foundation of modern evolutionary theory. Text based on the sixth edition (which was the last version that Darwin worked on before he died), with additions and corrections.

Condition

Publisher's original cloth binding with blind stamping to front and rear, and gilt lettering to spine. Externally in good condition, only slightly grubby, with a lightly tanned spine and wear and bumping to spine tips and corners. Good, strong joints, and binding nice and square. Foxing, light marking and tanning to edges and heavily to prelims. Booksellers' name and address embossed to blank page after the FFEP. Pages tightly bound and free of inscriptions, with only sporadically a shallow ear mark.

A nice copy.
