No slipcase.

A rebound copy of this first Folio edition of Salammbô, in full brown leather, with five raised bands to the spine and headbands sewn in two colours. In very good condition, with the slightest wear to the leather binding, a few foxing spots to the closed text block, and a mark with some innocuous small tears to three pages, likely occurring during the rebinding process. Each plate is hand-numbered in pencil, likely done at the bindery to ensure correct placement.

Please do note that, according to Folio's bibliography, there was also a small number of copies of this title that were specially bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe in quarter brown morocco with marbled paper boards; these copies are said to have been signed by the illustrator and contained plates printed directly from the copperplates rather than by collotype. This copy, however, is bound in full leather and not signed.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0830/5403/5283/files/Salambo-GUSTAVE-FLAUBERT-Ru-van-Rossem-FOLIO-SOCIETY-1950-Rebound-Leather_1.webp?v=1785071306
https://sanchosrarebooks.co.uk/products/salambo-gustave-flaubert-illustrated-ru-van-rossem-folio-society-1950-leather-binding
