Beautifully rebound, though not recently, in purple leather, with twin gilt ruling to boards, raised bands and gilt lettering to spine, hand-marbled endpapers and blind-embossed inner dentelles; binders' initials to rear turn-in: RWD \u0026amp; PWD. Housed in clamshell case bound in half cloth with hand-marbled paper sides and edges, and leather label to spine that has unfortunately now deteriorated.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFirst edition illustrated by W. Heath Robinson, with thirty color plates (including frontispiece), mounted on leaves with color border decorations, each behind a captioned and line-illustrated tissue guard. Many black and white line illustrations in the text (half-page or smaller). Title printed in red and black.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA very good copy, the binding square and firm, with only some sunning to the spine. The pages are clean and only ever-so-slightly tanned at the extremities, with all plates and tissue guards present; the only internal fault is a shallow crease to one plate (see photo), else a very clean example.
